Dr. Newton Phuong is a board-certified Cardiologist with fellowship-level training in 
cardiovascular disease. He brings to his practice
a rare combination of highly specialized clinical expertise and an active
record of peer-reviewed research—giving his patients access to care that is
grounded in the very latest advances in cardiovascular medicine.

Education & Training

Dr. Phuong earned his Doctor of Medicine with Distinction in Clinical Research from Albert
Einstein College of Medicine, a recognition reserved for graduates who
demonstrate exceptional achievement in research alongside their clinical
training. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular
Biology at the University of California, Davis, where he also began his
research career with laboratory work in neuroscience, stem cell biology, and
respiratory medicine.

He went on to complete his Internal Medicine Residency at the
University of Southern California, followed by a Cardiovascular Disease
Fellowship and a Cardiology Fellowship at the University of Vermont Medical Center

Clinical Expertise

Dr. Phuong specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. His
clinical and research focus includes coronary artery disease, arrhythmias
structural heart disease, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, and
cardiac computed tomography. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease, and holds board certification in Echocardiography,
 Nuclear Cardiology, and Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.

Research & Scholarship

Dr. Phuong is an accomplished clinical researcher with publications in leading peer-reviewed
journals including The Journal of Invasive Cardiology, JACC: Cardiovascular
Interventions, Cardiovascular Revascularization Medicine, and the Journal of
Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology. His research has examined outcomes
following TAVR, patent foramen ovale closure in liver transplant candidates,
and the use of cardiac MRI to predict recovery after myocardial infarction.

His work has been presented at major national conferences including the American College
of Cardiology, the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions
(SCAI), the American Society of Echocardiography, and the Society of
Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.

Honors & Recognition

Dr. Phuong has been recognized throughout his academic career for both his scholarly
achievement and his service. He is a recipient of the Einstein Senior Research
Fellowship, the Einstein Service and Research Scholarship, a Citation for
Outstanding Performance in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from UC Davis,
and the UC Davis Community Service Award. He is also a member of the Golden Key
International Honor Society and Phi Sigma biological sciences honor society.
