EKG

An EKG, also called an electrocardiogram, is a quick and painless test that records the electrical activity of your heart. It helps your provider understand how your heart is beating and whether the rhythm is normal.

Every heartbeat is controlled by electrical signals. An EKG captures these signals and displays them as a graph, allowing your provider to see your heart rate, rhythm, and timing of each heartbeat.

An EKG may be used to:

  • Check for irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias)
  • Evaluate chest pain, dizziness, or palpitations
  • Detect signs of heart attack or past heart injury
  • Monitor heart health before surgery or procedures
  • Track known heart conditions or medication effects
  • Small sticky patches (electrodes) are placed on your chest, arms, and legs
  • You lie still and relax for a few minutes
  • The machine records your heart’s electrical signals
  • The test usually takes 5–10 minutes

No. An EKG is non-invasive and painless. You won’t feel electricity—only the adhesive from the electrodes.

Your HVLC provider reviews the results, often the same day, and explains what they mean and whether further testing is needed.
