Physician Assistant | Cardiovascular Specialist

Gerardo Murguia, PA-C, MPH, is a compassionate and experienced Physician Assistant specializing in cardiovascular care. With a career in medicine that began in 2012 and includes diverse clinical rotations across multiple specialties and even an international placement in Ethiopia, Gerardo brings a broad perspective and deep dedication to the patients he serves—particularly those in underserved communities.

Education & Training

Gerardo earned a dual Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies and Master of Public Health from Touro University California in Vallejo, a program known for its commitment to primary care and health equity. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from California State University, Bakersfield, and an Associate of Science in Surgical Technology from San Joaquin Valley College. His public health training deepens his ability to understand and address the broader social and community factors that affect his patients’ health.

Clinical Experience

Gerardo has been practicing at Heart, Vascular & Leg Center since 2012, where he provides specialized cardiovascular care as part of a dedicated, collaborative team. Prior to joining the practice full-time, he spent three years as the sole provider for an internal medicine facility, gaining invaluable experience in managing complex patient panels independently.

His clinical training spanned an impressive range of specialties—including internal medicine, emergency medicine, orthopedic surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, family practice, and general surgery—across settings in California and internationally at Jimma University in Ethiopia. This breadth of experience gives him a uniquely well-rounded clinical foundation.

Philosophy of Care

Gerardo believes in taking the time to truly get to know each patient—understanding their individual needs so he can build a treatment plan that fits them, not just their diagnosis. He is passionate about making every patient feel safe to express their concerns and leave with a complete understanding of their condition and what comes next.

At the heart of his work is a deep respect for the heart itself—not only as the engine that sustains life, but as the seat of human emotion and connection. His mission extends beyond the exam room: he is committed to providing quality health care and health education to underserved populations in the Bakersfield community.

“Patient comes first—treat each patient with the level of respect they deserve, regardless.”

Beyond the Clinic

When he’s not caring for patients, Gerardo enjoys drawing, painting, and hiking. Above all, he loves finding fun and creative ways to spend time with his wife and three children. He is fluent in English and Spanish, and also has some knowledge of sign language—allowing him to connect with an even wider range of patients in the community he serves.
