Interventional Radiologist | Vascular & Body Interventional Specialist

Dr. Mark Le is a board-certified Diagnostic and Interventional Radiologist with specialized expertise in vascular intervention, body interventional radiology, and oncological treatments. A physician-scientist with a track record of academic excellence, published research, and clinical leadership, Dr. Le brings exceptional depth of skill and a commitment to advancing patient care through minimally invasive techniques.

Education & Training

Dr. Le earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, where he was awarded a full Dean’s Scholarship—a competitive, merit-based honor recognizing exceptional academic promise. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at the University of California, Los Angeles.

His clinical training included a General Surgery internship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, a Diagnostic Radiology Residency at Wayne State University in Detroit, and a Vascular and Interventional Radiology Fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. This rigorous, multi-institutional training path gave Dr. Le a uniquely broad foundation spanning surgery, diagnostic imaging, and advanced interventional procedures.

Clinical Expertise

Dr. Le’s interventional expertise spans two major domains. In vascular intervention, he specializes in advanced recanalization and maintenance of arteriovenous fistulas and peripheral arterial disease, with particular skill in below-the-knee interventions and chronic total occlusion of iliac, femoropopliteal, and popliteal arteries—some of the most technically demanding procedures in vascular medicine.

In body interventional radiology and oncology, Dr. Le performs a comprehensive range of procedures including bland embolization, radioembolization, chemoembolization, microwave ablation, and cryoablation for primary and metastatic cancers. He also has extensive experience in complex hepatobiliary and urogenital interventions such as transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) placement, uterine fibroid embolization (UFE), percutaneous nephrostomy, and ureteral stent placement.

At Focus Medical Imaging, Inc., Dr. Le serves as a diagnostic and interventional radiologist. He also holds leadership roles at Parkview Community Hospital as Medical Director of Radiology, Chief of Interventional Radiology, and Radiation Safety Officer, and serves as an active voting member of the Medical Executive Committee.

Research & Scholarship

Dr. Le is an accomplished researcher with publications in leading journals including the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, Developmental Dynamics, and PLoS One. As principal investigator, he led a multi-year retrospective study on embolization complications in adult and pediatric patients at Detroit Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of Michigan. His earlier research at the University of Iowa examined wound healing mechanisms at the molecular level, contributing to foundational knowledge in tissue repair and regenerative medicine.

He has delivered oral and poster presentations at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR), the American College of Radiology, the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Society of Interventional Oncology, and the International Symposium on Endovascular Therapy, among others.

Leadership & Community

Dr. Le has demonstrated a sustained commitment to education, mentorship, and service throughout his career. He has mentored medical students, organized IR interest groups, and contributed educational materials to national professional societies. As a student, he volunteered with a mobile clinic providing free health exams and education to underserved and rural communities in Iowa, and spent years organizing community cooking events for local shelters. He has also completed leadership and business development training through Harvard Business School and the Radiology Leadership Institute.

Honors & Recognition

Dr. Le has been recognized with numerous competitive awards throughout his training, including the Carver College of Medicine Dean’s Scholarship (full scholarship), the Research Distinction Track Award, the RSNA Resident-in-Training Award, resident scholarships from SIR, WCIO, ISET, GEST, and SYNERGY, and a First Prize Oral Presentation at DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital’s Annual Research Conference. Earlier honors include the Asian-Pacific American Academic Excellence Award, the Leadership and Excellence Award, and the Best Medical Biochemistry Research Paper.
